A Warm Welcome for Families

Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Academy in Billingham was delighted to welcome families into school for a special Reading Breakfast event.

It was wonderful to see so many parents, carers, and children come together to share in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Events like this play an important role in strengthening the connection between school and home, creating a true sense of community.

Promoting a Love of Reading

The Reading Breakfast provided pupils with a valuable opportunity to:

  • Enjoy reading alongside their families
  • Build confidence in reading aloud
  • Develop their fluency and understanding
  • Share stories in a supportive and encouraging environment

By reading together, children were able to practise key literacy skills while also discovering the joy that reading can bring. These shared experiences help foster positive attitudes towards books and learning.

Supporting Learning Beyond the Classroom

Encouraging reading at home is an essential part of every child’s development, and events like this highlight how important it is for families and schools to work in partnership.

The morning demonstrated how simple activities - like sharing a book - can:

  • Boost confidence
  • Strengthen communication skills
  • Inspire a lifelong love of reading

A Big Thank You

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who attended and supported the Reading Breakfast. Your involvement makes a real difference to the children’s learning and helps create such a welcoming and inclusive school environment.

The school looks forward to hosting more opportunities for families to join in and celebrate learning together.
